A graduate of Team HARD’s young driver initiative, Bobby Thompson was the first member of the programme to step up to the BTCC after winning the 2017 Volkswagen Racing Cup courtesy of six victories and two runner-up finishes.

Joining the grid in a Team HARD with Trade Price Cars Volkswagen CC in 2018, Thompson showed a good turn-of-speed over the second half of the season, highlighted by a seventh-place finish at Rockingham.

He returned for a second consecutive campaign with the outfit in 2019 under the ‘GKR Scaffolding with Autobrite Direct’ banner, scoring points in ten of the 30 races with a best result of sixth in the Brands Hatch curtain-raiser.

In 2020, Thompson switched to an Audi S3 fielded by GKR TradePriceCars.com, in which he secured a number of points finishes, before an incident at Croft ruled him out for the final six rounds.

After a 12-month break from the BTCC, Thompson returns with Autobrite Direct with JourneyHero in 2022, piloting one of the squad’s Cupra Leons.
