Laser Tools Racing was a new team for 2014, set up to support the career of teenage Scottish hope Aiden Moffat, who had made history in 2013 as the youngest driver ever to start a BTCC race.

The squad ran an RML-built Chevrolet Cruze before a mid-season partnership was formed with Ciceley Racing.

Ciceley built an all-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class for Laser Tools Racing in 2015, which helped Moffat to score his maiden podium in the championship on home soil at Knockhill that year.

2016 was the outfit’s best BTCC season to-date by a margin of some 50 points, with Moffat rounding things off in style with second spot in the finale.

In 2017, Laser Tools Racing went better still.

Not only did Moffat finish a place higher in the Drivers’ standings, but he also managed to secure a maiden victory early in the campaign at Donington Park.

To add to this, he signed off the season with a second win following a stellar drive at the famous Brands Hatch GP circuit.

In 2018, Moffat continued to impress for the team, scoring a double podium at Donington Park early in the season, followed up by a win at Silverstone later in the year.

A mid-season switch to the Infiniti Q50 left Laser Tools Racing on the back foot for much of 2019, but a second-place finish at Silverstone gave the Scottish squad reason to be hopeful for the future.

Ashley Sutton joined Moffat for the 2020 campaign, as the outfit opted to run two cars for the first time.

Strong performances from Sutton throughout the campaign saw him victorious in the battle for the crown, taking his second BTCC title and alongside Moffat driving the squad to Independents’ glory.

For 2021, we saw Laser Tools Racing expand its line-up further, retaining Sutton and Moffat but, for the first time, welcoming a third car, piloted by Carl Boardley, to the fold.

The pairing of Sutton and Moffat proved potent once again, with the duo racing to overall and Independents’ glory for a second consecutive year.

Moffat will be joined by series rookie Dexter Patterson in 2022, as the squad aims to retain its crowns heading into the Hybrid Era.
